Doctor Cortés graduated in 1984 as a medical doctor from Escuela Autónoma de Ciencias Médicas de Centro America U.A.C.A.; and completed her Social Service at Valle de la Estrella, in 1985, where she founded and trained the First Red Cross Comitte. From 1987-1992 she did her general surgery residence in San Juan de Dios Hospital with the Universidad de Costa Rica. Then she went to the Service de Chirugie Digestive du Proffeseur Jean Claude Sarles a l´Hopital Saint Marguerite in Marseille, where she was attaché associe aux titre etranger, and trained in Laparoscopy and Proctology, between 1992 and 1993. After completing her fellowship, she joined as a surgeon, the Emergency Surgery Department of Hospital San Juan de Dios in Costa Rica for one year. (1993). Then she left to Barcelona, Spain, where she worked in the Clínica del Pilar, with Dr. Augusto Andre Trias, (1994). In 1995, she comes back to Costa Rica, and started working at the Emergency Surgery Deparment where she works until now, she started her private practice in General and Laroscopic Surgery in 2000. Dr. Cortés has always being interested in teaching and sharing her knowledge with younger generations, she was the coordinator of the Residents Training Program in General Surgery, at Hospital San Juan de Dios, with the University of Costa Rica. In 2003 she coordinated a Course in Laparoscopic Surgery in the UNA, (National University), and in the 21 of May of 2008 she became founder and Director of CIELTA, a Center for research and training in Laparoscopy, this Center is Located in the UACA (Universidad Autónoma de Centro América), in Association with OLYMPUS and Covidien. Actually she dedicates most of her Practice to Bariatric and General Surgery utilizing Advanced Laparoscopic techniques and Single Site Surgery, she has her Private practice at CIMA Hospital a JCI approved Hospital in Costa Rica |
