After his formal training ended, he worked at two national hospitals the Instituto Nacional de Seguros (INS) and the Caja Costarricense de Seguro Social (CCSS). At the CCSS, he was chosen to serve as the Head of Service for Orthopedics and Traumatology. He now works at CIMA San Jose as an orthopedic surgeon, specializing in the knee.

Dr. Chavarría graduated with a degree in medicine from the University of Costa Rica where he specialized in orthopedic surgery.
